Residents Reminded to Redeem Value of Legacy Temporary Parking Permits

The City of Annapolis reminds residents who live in zoned parking districts that legacy temporary parking permits – those purchased prior to July 1st, 2019 – are no longer valid, according to a City Ordinance O-4-19. Vehicles using these legacy temporary permits will be issued a citation.

Ordinance O-4-19, enacted by the City Council on April 29, 2019, applies expiration dates to temporary parking permits issued on or after July 1, 2019. Under the ordinance, a maximum of 10 single-day permits may be purchased each month by residents of the residential parking districts in which they reside, and those permits expire at the end of each month.

Legacy temporary parking permits issued before July 1, 2019 are no longer valid effective January 1, 2020. Residents who still have legacy permits may receive credit for their value by visiting the office of Annapolis Parking (SP+), the city’s parking management firm at 60 West Street, Suite 106. Annapolis Parking is open for service between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents with questions may contact Annapolis Parking at (443) 648-3087 or annapolisparking@spplus.com.

Residents may apply for and purchase temporary parking permits at Annapolis Parking’s Temporary Parking Permits page.

Parking Tips for 2020 Legislative Session

Mayor Gavin Buckley welcomes members of the Maryland General Assembly, their staff, and visitors back to Annapolis for the 2020 legislative session starting Wednesday, January 8th. The City and Annapolis Parking offer the following tips for convenient parking downtown.

Skip the Crowds: Visitors can avoid the city’s busiest parking locations by parking at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium lot or Park Place Garage located at One Park Place on West Street. Park Place is serviced daily by the free Circulator. The stadium lot is serviced by the State Shuttle route ($2 fare), with a regular schedule from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The service frequency is every 20 minutes. During the legislative period, an additional state bus is added during the peak periods, from 7:00 am to 10:30 am, and 3:30 pm to 5:15 pm. Also, during the legislative session, extended state shuttle service is provided on Mondays only until 10:00 pm.

Reserve Garage Parking Online: Visitors can purchase garage parking online at Noah Hillman Garage, Knighton Garage, or Gott’s Court Garage. Simply visit www.annapolisparking.com, navigate to the garage of your choice, and select “Buy Daily Parking.”

Avoid New Fines for Parking Violations: To improve pedestrian safety and parking availability, the City of Annapolis increased fines for certain parking violations in 2019, including parking at a red-lined curb or fire hydrant, parking at a metered space for more than two hours between 10 am and 7:30 pm, and parking in a space reserved for persons with disabilities.

Parking in garages and observing on-street parking regulations is the best way to avoid parking fines. For a detailed list of the new parking fine schedule, visit Annapolis Parking’s New Parking Fines page.

Invest in Monthly Parking: For guaranteed parking, visitors can purchase monthly parking passes for Gott’s Court Garage located at 25 Northwest Street. Contact Annapolis Parking at annapolisparking@spplus.com or (443) 648-3087 for rates and details.

Ride the free Circulator: The free Circulator includes stops to benefit session visitors. The School Street-Church Circle stop near the State House complex provides faster and more convenient service back to the three garages on West Street (Gott’s Court, Knighton, and Park Place.) The State Garage stop at 19 St. John’s Street is designed to encourage visitors to take advantage of State Garage’s free public parking Monday-Friday 6 pm to 6 am and all weekend. The North Street-State Circle stop allows visitors easy access to the State House and other state government buildings. Visitors can track the Circulator’s location in real-time by downloading the “RLS Shuttle” app to their smartphone and clicking “Annapolis,” or visiting the mobile-friendly website www.annapolisparking.com/circulator-alternative-transportation/.

Park Free: Park free at on-street meters after 7:30 pm on weeknights and at Calvert Street Garage (aka State Garage) at 19 St. John’s Street Monday-Friday 6 pm to 6 am and on weekends.

Find All Parking Options Online: There are plenty of parking options available to those visiting Annapolis. Visitors can explore these options at www.AnnapolisParking.com, a mobile-friendly website featuring maps, rates, contact information, and additional details about the garages, surface lots, on-street parking, and Circulator services available to the public.

Convenient Parking Options for Miracle on Annapolis Street

In The Capital: Annapolis offers many holiday parking options

There are many ways to enjoy downtown Annapolis this holiday season, from Midnight Madness and Grand Illumination to the Parade of Lights. We want visitors to know there are a number of convenient parking options available, including several ways to park entirely free downtown this holiday season — five to be exact.

As in previous years, visitors can park free for three hours, seven days a week at downtown meters starting Nov. 29 through New Year’s Eve. The only difference for 2019 is that visitors secure those three hours via the free ParkMobile app, available on Apple and Google Play, using code ParkDTA.

Residents and visitors to Annapolis already use ParkMobile at downtown meters about 12,500 times each month. ParkMobile is used by more than 13 million people in North America, including Baltimore, Washington, Bethany Beach, Ocean City and Towson.

By shifting holiday three-hours free parking to an app-based program, Annapolis is preparing for a “mobile-first” future when parking meters won’t clutter the historic downtown landscape. It also prevents the damage that meters incurred in prior years when they were bagged, which made them inoperable and in need of repair or replacement. The app also allows Annapolis to easily offer parking promotions any time of year.

The key is to “know before you go” downtown. Download ParkMobile to your Apple or Android phone before you plan your downtown visit.

Next, set up an account by entering a username and password, vehicle information, and payment information. A credit card is required to establish an account, but no charge is incurred. Once parked at a meter, enter the parking zone code on the green sticker on your meter, or let ParkMobile enter your location automatically, then enter the code ParkDTA for three hours of free parking. Alternatively, call 877-727-5758 and provide the ParkDTA code.

Additional free parking options are available year-round. Here are a few.

Residents Encouraged to Utilize Legacy Temporary Parking Permits Before Year’s End

The City of Annapolis encourages residents to use any legacy temporary parking permits – those purchased prior to July 1, 2019 – by the end of calendar year 2019. Beginning January 1, 2020, temporary permits purchased before July 1st will not be recognized, according to a new City Ordinance.

If residents are unable to use all of their legacy temporary permits by the end of 2019, they may receive credit for their value by visiting the office of Annapolis Parking (SP+), the city’s parking management firm at 60 West Street, Suite 106. Annapolis Parking is open for service between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents with questions may contact Annapolis Parking at (443) 648-3087 or annapolisparking@spplus.com.

Previously, temporary parking permits purchased by residents had no expiration date. City Ordinance O-4-19, enacted by the City Council April 29, 2019, applies expiration dates to temporary parking permits issued on or after July 1st, 2019 and applies an expiration date of January 1, 2020 to all permits purchased prior to July 1st.
